Nigerians are the fastest growing immigrant in the world. Over 5000 Nigerians doctors are practicing in the USA. Over 600 practice in Canada and 6000 practice in the UK. These are numbers of doctors practicing outside Nigeria not the total number of medical practitioners leaving Nigeria.
One of the main reasons for this is due to lack of opportunities and poor pay. It was discovered that Nigerian doctors abroad have been well trained in their home countries before relocation. According to PWC, Nigerian doctors living abroad have been able to send 83% of the entire Nigeria budget home. It was said that money sent home from abroad had surpass the amount Nigeria made from crude oil in the last 2years.
